Grapes for this wine were sourced from Rutherford and Atlas Peak Vineyards. These vineyards with their well-drained slopes, alluvial clay soils and sunny microclimate result in Cabernet Sauvignon that displays the rich, ripe dark fruit characteristics for which Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has garnered world acclaim.

The grapes received a cold-soak maceration prior to fermentation to increase concentration. After fermentation, various blend components were aged for 18 to 24 months in primarily new French Oak barrels. Gentle pressing of the must is essential for getting additional flavor and color, while avoiding the overly drying tannins found in the seeds. The addition of Merlot provides additional smoothness while adding some spicy components and fruity notes.
