Decibel Wines are the vision of Winemaker Daniel Brennan and produced with some of New Zealand's best Wine Growers. 

Viticulture:

Hawke’s Bay lies on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The region enjoys dry summers with moderate, cool nights. This wine re ects a single vineyard Malbec organically grown on the famous alluviale soils of Hawkes Bay, on an appellation determined by the gravelly soils laid down by the old Ngaruroro River, which were exposed after a huge ood in the 1860’s.

This sub region of Hawke’s Bay is particularly fantastic for growing red varietals, resulting in unique tannin structure. 2014 was a fantastic growing season, one of Hawkes Bay’s best ever. The vintage was characterised by ripe, plump and luscious fruit.

Vinification:

After harvest in late April, when ripeness was opti- mal, the fruit was de-stemmed and fermented wild on skins where it remained for a total of 6 weeks to develop lush, round tannins and dark colour. It was then gently pressed in a small basket press. It was then settled in tank and put into French barriques for 20 months. It was then racked into tank and lightly ned with traditional methods using organic, free farmed egg whites. The wine was then coarse ltered and bottled under natural cork to allow for optimal development during its aging.

Tasting notes:

The nose is brambly with plum and black currants. Notes of sandlewood and vanilla lie in the background. It is a brooding wine with casting a dark veil and gamey aromas. Blackish fruit dominate the palate with typical Malbec acidity and surprising freshness that remains buoyant. The tannins are ripe and drying with clean oak and a dusty, rustic nish.
