Rich, medium bodied and velvety tannins is the best descriptors for the 2013 McLaren Vale Shiraz 75% / Grenache 25%. From one of the best vintages in recent years, ripe Shiraz offers spice, blackberries, tobacco and dark chocolate. The Grenache component adds liqueur cherries, raspberry and contributes heavily to the silky tannin structure of the wine.
The two varieties working in harmony give the wine excellent balance, and the finish is long and smooth.
This wine was maturing in French and American oak Hogsheads ( 10% New ), for 16 months and was fermented on skins for 10 days then pressed into barrel to complete alcoholic and malolactic fermentations.
